The Manitoba Criminal Justice Association is an independent community based organization affiliated with the Canadian Criminal Justice Association and governed by a Board of Directors comprised of citizens interested in achieving the objectives of the Association. The Association has been actively engaged in promoting crime prevention initiatives in Manitoba for more than 30 years.
The objectives of the MCJA are as follows:
- To encourage cooperation among all individuals and groups in Manitoba interested in problems that derive from criminal and delinquent behavior.
- To participate in programs aimed at increasing public awareness and understanding of current issues in Canadian justice, including legislation, criminal justice services, public education, rehabilitation and victim resources.
- To help promote and coordinate crime prevention strategies through community involvement of neighbours, schools, union, business groups, agencies, police, government and other interested people.
- To promote awareness of issues surrounding the administration of justice, prevention of crime, protection, probation and parole, correctional institution and of related groups, agencies and services concerned with the treatment of victims and offenders;
- To encourage criminological research.
